North Jersey restaurants: Ice cream shop, vegan bakery, cooking studio

WHAT YOU’LL FIND THERE: The chain, as its name implies, focuses on salads that come with lots of healthy ingredients and fun names such as Cauli-Powers, Open Sesame, Apple Waldy and more. The nine New Jersey locations all offer similar menu items. They have soups, including chicken pastina and veggie chili that cost $3, salads, including a make-your-own that range from $7.50 to $15, and appetizers such as cauliflower bites and buffalo poppers that run around $10. The menu appeals to vegans and vegetarians as well. They also offer sandwiches, wraps and smoothies.

WHEN: It opened on June 21

WHAT YOU’LL FIND THERE: Services include hair cuts for young children that run about $18 to adults. that range depending on style. Head shaves are $27. They offer straight razor cuts, hot towel face and head shaves and beard care. The shop is experienced with disabled, autistic, special needs children and even "every day fussy kids."

WHERE: South Plaza, 694 Route 15 south

WHEN: It opened on June 18

WHAT YOU’LL FIND THERE: This plant-based coffee shop and bakery offers vegan treats, cakes, cookies, and brownies. Decorated in muted colors and lots of green plants, the bakery has a counter and tables for those who want to enjoy their treats and drinks immediately. WHAT YOU’LL FIND THERE: Here you'll find cooking classes for kids, teens and adults. Chef T has a new pizza oven for pizza-making parties to celebrate birthday parties or other events. Jeremiah's Catering also offers catering services and a private chef for hire. You can gift one of Chef T's meals to a person in need or give a gift certificate to their services or classes for a special occasion. There are more than 50 food choices on the menu.

WHAT YOU’LL FIND THERE: Choose from over a dozen ice cream flavors, cookies, brownies, ice cream pies and donuts. You can have your favorite ice cream in a cup, a cone or in a milkshake and if that's not enough, make your own ice cream sandwich. The cookies & brownie ice cream is made from scratch with real ingredients and served in a traditional ice cream parlor setting. Mohamed Elnakib, one of the three sibling owners said he is "hoping (crossing our fingers here) we’d be ready for a soft opening mid to late July, however, this may be delayed if final inspections are delayed."

MORE: Monday to Thursday 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Friday to Saturday 12 p.m. to 11 p.m. The family-owned ice-cream parlor has locations in Westwood, Jersey City, and soon Morristown.

WHAT YOU’LL FIND THERE: It will feature a prepared food section, hot and cold food bars, Sushi by Kikka, a sandwich station, pizza station, and a chef's case with seasonal entrees and sides.
