The Morgan County Sheriff’s Office says two inmates have been charged following a unsuccessful escape attempt from the jail.

The incident happened Thursday, according to authorities.

Corrections officers observed Orlandis Ray Bates Jr., 22, of Decatur, attempt to throw a “rope like” object up the 30 foot wall of a recreational area, lined by razor wire, to the roof. Nearby, they say, Trevor Lee Warren, 21, of Huntsville, stood watching the door to the recreation yard.

Other officers, aided by the jail camera system, were notified and quickly detained the two.

According to the sheriff’s office, the “rope” was made out of sheets, a blanket, towels and a water bottle.

Bates, who was in jail on prior burglary and robbery charges, now faces first degree escape charges. Warren, incarcerated for receiving stolen property charges, has now been charged with first degree permitting and facilitating an escape. Both remain at the jail.

The sheriff’s office says efforts to upgrade and expand the jail camera system are continuing.
